cataract version 2
Latex gloves are an emotionally charged material. As an indispensable tool for nurses, they protect the body from infections. As skin protection by cleaners, they keep chemical cleansers away from the hands. At the same time, latex as a material immediately flashes thoughts of sex and eroticism and becomes an accessory of prostitutes.
The healer who cares for herself. The housekeeper, who cleans the floor and keeps her back free. The whore who brings lust in the dark but gets no dignity.
An object that is common to three cliché-laden female professions and reflects our understanding of classic women's work, which in many eyes is not really a work at all. The glove is the common denominator of lack of appreciation, poor pay and hard, physical work of the three professions.
The installation cataract plays with the poles of association. While the installation initially fills the room with a quiet aesthetic, hundreds of hands of working women are woven together. Also, the knotting of the individual curtain strands is reminiscent of craft, which is referred to as women's work. The endless knot takes place while sitting and follows a continuous routine. Thumb on finger. Finger to thumb. Thumb on finger. The raw material of each glove is gradually processed to the coral-like strands. The installation can be continued endlessly.
